WhatsApp adds festive confetti animation in new beta update

WhatsApp has introduced a festive confetti animation in its latest Android beta update (version 2.25.35.11), released via the Google Play Beta Program.

The feature is purely decorative and serves as the standout highlight of the update. When users react to messages using select emojis, a lively confetti animation appears, transforming ordinary chats into colourful, interactive moments — ideal for the holiday and New Year season.

Currently, the feature is available to select beta testers, with a wider rollout expected in the coming days.

WhatsApp has also added the Party Popper emoji to its default reaction tray, making it easier for users to trigger the festive effect with a single tap.

The confetti animation is powered by the Lottie framework, which supports smooth, multi-layered animations without impacting app performance. This ensures the visual effects remain responsive while avoiding lag, despite their complexity.

Much like last year’s seasonal update, the festive confetti animation will be available for a limited time, giving users an extra touch of celebration in their conversations throughout the holiday period.
