The Pakistan Army and China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) have launched Warrior-IX, the ninth edition of their annual bilateral counter-terrorism exercise, ARY News reported on Tuesday, citing the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The latest iteration of the long-running series started on 1 December 2025 and aims to enhance joint capabilities in modern counter-terrorism (CT) operations. The exercise seeks to strengthen interoperability, improve professional skills, and facilitate the exchange of tactical best practices between the two militaries.
According to ISPR, Warrior-IX reflects the depth of Pakistan–China defence cooperation, built on longstanding trust, strategic alignment, and a shared commitment to regional peace and stability.
The opening ceremony was held at the National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC) Pabbi, attended by senior military officers from both countries, including the Mangla Corps Commander and Major General Bian Xiaoming, Deputy Chief of Staff of the PLA’s Western Theatre Command. Their presence underscored the significance both states attach to sustained collaboration in security and CT domains.
ISPR noted that Warrior-IX demonstrates the enduring strength of the Pakistan–China defence partnership and the two nations’ collective resolve to counter emerging security challenges in the region.
The Chinese Defence Ministry also confirmed the start of the exercise a day earlier, stating that troops from the PLA Western Theater Command and the Pakistan Army would participate in the joint CT drills in Pakistan.
