26 bottled water brands declared unsafe by PCRWR due to contamination

The Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) has declared 26 bottled water brands unsafe for human consumption, citing microbiological and chemical contamination detected during routine testing.

Under government directives, PCRWR monitors bottled and mineral water brands every quarter and publicly releases findings to protect consumers and ensure compliance with national quality standards.

Extensive Testing Across 21 Cities

For the third quarter of 2025 (July–September), PCRWR collected 205 samples from 21 major cities. These samples were analyzed against Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) criteria.

Results showed that 26 brands failed to meet safety standards and were deemed unfit for drinking.

“The poor quality of drinking water has forced many citizens to rely on bottled water. However, several companies were found selling contaminated water,” the PCRWR stated.
