Former Indian tennis star Sania Mirza has spoken candidly about the emotional challenges she has faced following her divorce from Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, revealing that she often skips dinner simply because she dislikes eating alone.
In a heartfelt conversation with filmmaker Karan Johar, Mirza discussed the realities of single parenting, noting that although it comes with immense responsibility, she is navigating it with strength. Johar highlighted the added complexity of her situation due to her cross-border marriage.
Sania, who moved to Dubai after marrying Shoaib Malik, now shares custody of their son Izhaan. She said the hardest part is being away from him when work requires her to travel between Dubai and India. “Even a week without him feels extremely difficult,” she admitted.
Talking about her personal habits post-divorce, Mirza revealed that she has stopped having dinner because she does not like dining alone. At times, she chooses to simply watch something and go to bed instead, believing that avoiding dinner might also help with weight control.
Her struggles are not new. In a previous podcast, filmmaker Farah Khan disclosed that Sania experienced anxiety and panic attacks after her separation, often trembling due to stress.
Sania’s openness has sparked discussions about the emotional toll of divorce, especially on single mothers balancing demanding careers with parenting responsibilities.
