OGRA refutes fuel shortage claims, confirms stable supply nationwide.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has dismissed circulating reports of a fuel shortage in Pakistan, assuring that petroleum supply operations are functioning smoothly across the country.

In an official statement, an OGRA spokesperson acknowledged that while there were brief delays in the clearance of imported petroleum products earlier, the matter has now been completely resolved.

The spokesperson confirmed that Pakistan State Oil’s (PSO) diesel vessel and WAFI’s petrol vessel have both been cleared, ensuring uninterrupted fuel supplies nationwide.

“Fuel supply operations across the country remain normal, and business continues as usual,” the statement emphasized.

The clarification came amid industry concerns that the Sindh government’s decision to reinstate a 100% bank guarantee under the Sindh Infrastructure Development Cess (IDC) had caused several petroleum cargoes to be stranded at Karachi ports, prompting fears of a potential shortage.

In a letter to the Sindh chief minister and federal authorities, the Oil Companies Advisory Council (OCAC) highlighted that at least five major shipments — carrying petrol and diesel for PSO, HPL, PGL, and PARCO — were awaiting customs clearance.

OGRA, however, reaffirmed that fuel distribution within the country remains unaffected, adding that the authority is continuously monitoring the supply chain to ensure stability and prevent any shortfall.
