FC Barcelona have confirmed that midfielder Frenkie de Jong has signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay until 2029, the Spanish champions announced on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old Dutch international, who joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019, is currently in his seventh season with the Catalan side. During his time at the Camp Nou, he has helped the club secure two La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey trophies.
Although De Jong has faced periods of inconsistency, he became an integral part of the midfield under manager Hansi Flick last season, forming a strong partnership with Pedri González.
Originally signed under former president Josep Maria Bartomeu, De Jong remains one of Barcelona’s highest-paid players. However, Spanish media reports suggest he has agreed to a salary reduction beginning from the 2026/27 season as part of the new deal.
“The midfielder Frenkie de Jong has extended his deal with FC Barcelona until 2029, as on Wednesday the Dutchman signed his new contract alongside president Joan Laporta in the Club’s head offices,” Barcelona stated in an official release.
The club added that De Jong finalized the renewal after training, signing the new agreement in the presence of president Joan Laporta, first vice president Rafael Yuste, board member Joan Soler, director of football Deco, football coordinator Bojan Krkic, and other members of the Sporting Commission.
