Sindh expands people’s IT program to offer free short courses for matric and intermediate students.

The Sindh government has announced the expansion of its People’s Information Technology Program (PITP), providing free short IT courses to matric and intermediate pass students across the province.

According to official details, the initiative will be carried out in collaboration with the Department of Information Science and Technology and offered through three leading universitiesNED University Karachi, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Hyderabad, and IBA Sukkur.

Under the expanded program, 35,000 students will be trained in three phases, with each phase accommodating 7,000 participants. The two-month courses, offered free of cost, aim to equip youth with market-relevant IT skills to enhance employability and promote digital inclusion.

So far, 13,000 students have successfully completed short IT courses in the first phase. The second phase, with an allocation of Rs 1,400 million, will be implemented during the 2025–2026 fiscal years.

Collaboration with Google for Digital Journalism

Earlier, the Sindh government signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Google to launch a Digital Journalism Program, further expanding the province’s digital education footprint.

The signing ceremony, chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah in Karachi, marked two major agreements — one under the People’s IT Program and another for the Google Digital Journalism Scholarship initiative.

Highlighting the program’s success, Murad Ali Shah stated that thousands of students have already acquired globally recognized IT certifications, while over 4,300 graduates are actively contributing to Pakistan’s digital economy.

The government aims to empower the youth through accessible digital education, positioning Sindh as a key hub for IT talent and innovation in the region.
