NA Passes resolution condemning threats to journalists, walkout staged in protest.

The National Assembly on Monday approved a resolution condemning alleged threats made by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan to senior journalist Ejaz Ahmed during his detention at Adiala Jail, ARY News reported.

The resolution accused the PTI founder of launching a campaign of harassment against journalists and stressed the need to ensure their protection in Islamabad and across the country. Lawmakers also condemned the recent killing of journalist Imtiaz Mir in Karachi, demanding strict action against those involved in harassing or trolling media professionals.

During the debate, PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan opposed the resolution, warning that such moves could “spoil the environment of the House.” He acknowledged the media’s role but clarified that he had not yet met Imran Khan, promising to personally investigate the matter concerning Ejaz Ahmed. Gohar reminded the House that Imran Khan had previously apologized to journalists and cautioned against further escalation, suggesting the resolution seemed designed to probe private conversations with the PTI founder.

The proceedings were marked by a journalists’ walkout from the parliamentary gallery in protest against Imran Khan’s alleged behavior. Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar expressed solidarity with the media, stating: “Protesting is the right of journalists. Politics and journalism share a deep connection.”

Despite objections, the National Assembly passed the resolution, highlighting growing concerns over threats, harassment, and violence faced by journalists in Pakistan.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, PTI founder Imran Khan reportedly barred his sister Aleema Khan from interfering in party affairs after senior PTI leaders from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lodged complaints against her, according to party sources.
