Maryam Nawaz inaugurates Pakistan’s first coablation cancer treatment centre in Lahore.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has inaugurated Pakistan’s first advanced Coablation Cancer Treatment Centre in Lahore, introducing a 60-minute, pain-free cancer cure that requires neither chemotherapy nor radiotherapy, ARY News reported.

The breakthrough technology, imported from China, is valued at Rs 250 million per machine, with each probe costing $5,500. Maryam Nawaz announced an allocation of Rs 5 billion to expand access across Punjab, ensuring free treatment for patients unable to afford it.

At the inauguration, she highlighted that Punjab is the first province in Pakistan to offer this revolutionary method. A machine has already become operational at Mayo Hospital, where five cancer patients have been successfully treated. More machines are being ordered for South Punjab, Rawalpindi, and the under-construction Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital.

Trials will also begin soon for treating kidney tumours with the same technique. To ensure smooth operation, Pakistani doctors, including Dr Shehzad, received specialised training in China.

Calling the development a “ray of hope” for cancer patients, Maryam Nawaz said the facility ensures world-class, painless treatment with promising results.

Meanwhile, in another milestone for cancer care, Jinnah Hospital Karachi recently performed its first-ever knee cancer surgery. A 26-year-old patient underwent a four-hour-long procedure led by orthopaedic and plastic surgeons, during which the tumour was removed and a prosthetic knee implanted, giving him a new lease on life.
