In a tragic incident, three newborns—two girls and a boy—died in Wazirabad’s flood-affected region after their mother was unable to receive timely medical assistance.
The Incident
Rescue officials reported that floodwaters had blocked access routes to local hospitals, leaving the family stranded without emergency aid. The mother was forced to deliver inside a car on August 28 near Nala Phalko, as rising water levels cut off medical facilities.
The grieving mother said that if medical help had been available on time, her babies could have survived.
Administration’s Response
District authorities stated that a rescue team was dispatched as soon as the family’s call was received, but the deliveries had already taken place.
- Initially, both the mother and newborns were reported stable.
- Officials said the mother declined to be shifted to the hospital.
Humanitarian Crisis
The tragedy highlights the worsening humanitarian situation in Punjab’s flood-hit areas, where damaged roads, blocked transport, and limited medical facilities continue to endanger vulnerable lives.
Punjab has been reeling under heavy flooding, worsened by India’s release of water into Pakistani rivers.
Relief Measures
In a separate development, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and cellular companies have announced free voice minutes for residents in flood-affected areas.
“As recent floods continue to impact various parts of Punjab, CMOs, in collaboration with the PTA, have announced special relief measures for the affected population,” the PTA said in a statement.
