Punjab revises school timings amid flood emergency.

The Punjab School Education Department has issued a notification announcing revised schedules for all public schools across the province, effective until October 15, 2025.

Under the new timetable:

  • Single-shift schools will operate from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM (Monday–Thursday), and until 12:00 PM on Fridays.
  • Double-shift schools will follow a split routine:
    • Morning shift: 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM (Monday–Thursday), closing at 12:00 PM on Fridays.
    • Evening shift: 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM (Monday–Thursday), and 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM on Fridays.

Officials say the revised schedule aims to ensure a smooth academic transition after vacations, while taking weather conditions and logistical challenges into account.

Meanwhile, large parts of Punjab remain submerged due to severe flooding, with the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej Rivers overflowing. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an “exceptionally high flood” alert for the Chenab River over the next 36 hours.

According to PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia, India released water from the Salal and Thein Dams without prior notice, worsening the situation. A massive flood wave is expected to reach Head Marala within two days, raising water levels dangerously high.

“All district administrations are directed to stay on high alert and ensure the presence of commissioners, deputy commissioners, and field officers in vulnerable areas,” Kathia added.
