Pakistan railways halts jaffar express, accelerates digitization drive.

Pakistan Railways announced that the Jaffar Express will not operate from Quetta to Peshawar on August 25 and 26 as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, the Chaman Passenger Train departed from Quetta on schedule, officials confirmed.

In a broader development, Pakistan Railways has launched a large-scale digitization and automation programme to improve safety, reduce delays, and boost efficiency in both passenger and freight services nationwide.

According to official documents, advanced communication and signalling systems are being introduced across key sections of the network. This includes the installation of computerized interlocking systems at Landhi, Jummagoth, Badal Nala, and Sarhad stations, replacing outdated manual controls to enhance train routing and accident prevention.

Additionally, the Karachi–Lahore section telecom system is undergoing a major overhaul with a digital microwave radio communication system, ensuring secure and uninterrupted data transmission for train operations.

To further improve coordination, a Push-to-Talk digital communication network is being rolled out across Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sukkur, and Karachi divisions, enabling real-time communication between field staff and control rooms.
