Pakistan and Micronesia establish diplomatic relations on Pakistan’s Independence Day.

Pakistan and the Federated States of Micronesia, an island nation in the western Pacific Ocean, have formally established diplomatic relations during a ceremony in New York on Thursday.

The joint communiqué was signed by Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, and Ambassador Jeem S. Lippwe, Micronesia’s Permanent Representative. The event, hosted at Pakistan’s Mission to the UN, was attended by senior diplomats, including Deputy Permanent Representative Ambassador Usman Jadoon.

Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad expressed delight that this milestone coincided with Pakistan’s Independence Day, noting that the new ties would pave the way for cooperation in human resource development, capacity building, and climate change. He emphasized that both nations would work closely at the UN to promote peace and security. Ahmad also highlighted that Pakistan had become the 100th country to establish relations with Micronesia.

Ambassador Lippwe welcomed the new chapter of friendship and partnership, thanking Pakistan for its support in opening UN offices in Micronesia. He expressed optimism about enhancing cooperation and conveyed his congratulations on Pakistan’s Independence Day.

Prior to the ceremony, both ambassadors discussed potential avenues of bilateral and multilateral collaboration.
