An inspired spell from Jayden Seales powered the West Indies to a thumping 202-run victory over Pakistan in the third and deciding ODI in Trinidad on Tuesday, securing their first series win against Pakistan in the format since 1991.
Seales tore through Pakistan’s top order with a sensational 6-18, reducing the visitors to 92 all out in pursuit of 295. The collapse began early, with Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, and Mohammad Rizwan dismissed inside the first three overs, before Babar Azam fell lbw for nine. Seales later returned to claim the final two wickets and seal his maiden six-wicket haul.
Earlier, West Indies posted 294-6 after being sent in to bat, led by captain Shai Hope’s commanding unbeaten 120—his 18th ODI century. The innings had stuttered at 68-3, but Hope found support from Roston Chase (36) before combining with Justin Greaves for a blistering 110-run stand in the final 8.1 overs. Greaves smashed 43 not out from 24 balls as the hosts surged towards the 300 mark.
Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie chipped in with two wickets during Pakistan’s chase, while Roston Chase completed the win with a run-out of number 11 Abrar Ahmed.
Hope praised his side’s resilience, saying: “We stress on negatives a lot in West Indies, but there are so many positives to shout about. Great to see the guys pulling off history.”
Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan admitted early wickets cost his side, adding: “Seales made it difficult for us throughout the series.”
The West Indies had lost the series opener but bounced back to win the last two matches, marking a significant turnaround after heavy defeats to Australia earlier in the summer.
