Tom Latham ruled out of second test against Zimbabwe due to injury.

New Zealand captain Tom Latham has been ruled out of the second Test against Zimbabwe after failing to recover from a shoulder injury, New Zealand Cricket confirmed on Wednesday.

Latham also missed the first Test, where all-rounder Mitch Santner led the side to a dominant nine-wicket win. Santner will continue as stand-in captain for the second and final match of the series, beginning Thursday in Bulawayo.

“It’s hugely disappointing to lose Tom again,” head coach Rob Walter said. “He’s been working hard and had been tracking well for the second Test, but unfortunately he couldn’t pass the fitness test today. He’s extremely gutted and we’re really feeling for him.”

To bolster the squad, New Zealand have called up middle-order batter Bevon Jacobs as injury cover.
