Singer Jessie J has opened up about her ongoing recovery following breast cancer surgery, revealing that she’s “feeling a lot stronger” despite lingering chest pain and breathing difficulties that recently led to a hospital stay.
The 37-year-old “Price Tag” artist, who underwent a mastectomy in June, was hospitalized six weeks post-surgery after experiencing symptoms initially believed to be a blood clot in her lungs. “It is not a blood clot — thank God,” Jessie clarified in an update shared via Instagram Stories, as reported by Billboard.
Doctors ran extensive tests, which revealed an infection and some fluid in her lungs. “Finding it hard to breathe in,” she explained, “but I discharged myself last night (I hate being in hospital) and will continue the investigation as an outpatient.”
Maintaining her trademark humor amid the health scare, Jessie joked about her mystery illness: “Apparently it’s called… Dramatic? I think that’s the spelling.” But she quickly shifted to a more serious tone, acknowledging that while her symptoms persist, her “sarcasm and sense of humor are holding on.”
Speaking to fans from her bed at home, she gave a heartfelt update: “I think people think I’m hanging on by a thread — which in some moments has felt that way. Like two or three days ago, when I woke up and couldn’t breathe.” She noted the chest pain remains, though it’s now less intense.
Jessie confirmed the breast cancer diagnosis and surgery for the first time publicly: “I had breast cancer and I had surgery,” she said, explaining that concerns about a potential blood clot prompted the recent hospitalization.
Now focusing on recovery, the “Bang Bang” singer says she’s hoping her symptoms are the result of a viral illness and that her immune system simply needs a bit more support. “I am resting, guys, and I also am feeling better. I’m no worse… and I promise I shower,” she added with a smile.
Fans and followers continue to flood her with messages of love and support as she bravely shares her health journey with honesty, resilience, and humor.
