Justin Timberlake reveals Lyme disease diagnosis, reflects on tour and health struggles.

Pop star Justin Timberlake has revealed he’s been diagnosed with Lyme disease, sharing the news in a heartfelt Instagram post on Thursday. The announcement came as Timberlake marked the end of his Forget Tomorrow tour, which wrapped up in Turkey the day before.

Calling the illness “relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically,” the former *NSYNC member said he considered ending the tour after his diagnosis. However, he ultimately chose to keep performing, saying, “The joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I’m so glad I kept going.

Timberlake admitted he doesn’t know what the future holds for his live performances but expressed deep gratitude for the experience:

“I’ll always cherish this run — and all of them before. It’s been the stuff of legend for me.”

Health Struggles Throughout the Tour

Timberlake’s tour was marked by multiple cancellations and postponements due to health issues. He rescheduled six U.S. shows in October and November to February, citing bronchitis and laryngitis. The final U.S. show, scheduled in Ohio, was eventually canceled due to the flu.

Support From Family

In his post, the 10-time Grammy winner thanked his wife, Jessica Biel, and their two sons, Silas and Phin, saying:

“Nothing is more powerful than your unconditional love. You are my heart and my home. I’m on my way.”

What is Lyme Disease?

Lyme disease is caused by bacteria transmitted by black-legged (deer) ticks. It can lead to fatigue, fever, joint pain, neurological problems, and in some cases, long-term complications.

  • Early symptoms may include a bull’s-eye rash, though not everyone develops one.
  • Prompt antibiotic treatment is essential to prevent serious complications like arthritis or heart issues.
  • Some individuals experience lingering symptoms even after treatment.

The CDC estimates that roughly 476,000 Americans are treated for Lyme disease each year, though actual infection rates may vary.

Recent Legal Issue

Earlier in 2024, Timberlake pleaded guilty to driving while impaired in New York’s Hamptons. As part of his plea deal, he delivered a public safety message in September, encouraging people not to drive under the influence.

Timberlake’s representatives have not yet commented further on his health status.
