Monsoon rains lash Lahore and Northern regions; flood alerts issued amid rising death toll.

Rainfall was reported across several areas of Lahore on Thursday morning as the ongoing monsoon spell intensified, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

Neighborhoods including Islampura, Gulshan Ravi, Mall Road, Lower Mall, Mozang, and Anarkali experienced moderate to heavy rain, providing temporary relief from the persistent humidity. However, the downpour led to waterlogging in low-lying areas and power outages in multiple localities.

Intermittent rain also affected Rawalpindi and Islamabad, where the water level in Leh Nullah surged to 10 feet. Authorities opened the spillways of Rawal Dam after the reservoir reached a level of 1,749 feet.

The Met Office has forecast continued heavy rainfall over the next 12 hours in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northeastern Balochistan.

The ongoing monsoon season has claimed 252 lives and left 611 injured so far. Among the deceased are 121 children, 85 men, and 46 women. Punjab has suffered the most fatalities with 139 deaths, followed by 60 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 24 in Sindh, 16 in Balochistan, six in Islamabad, and two in Azad Kashmir.
