Glenn Phillips rout of Zimbabwe tour with groin injury; NZ suffer double blow.

New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips has been withdrawn from the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe due to a groin injury sustained during the Major League Cricket final in Dallas, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) confirmed on Friday.

The 28-year-old will be sidelined for several weeks, ruling him out of both the tri-series—featuring South Africa—and the subsequent two-Test series against hosts Zimbabwe.

New Zealand are already dealing with the absence of batter Finn Allen, who was earlier ruled out of the tri-series due to a foot injury also picked up during the MLC.

Head coach Rob Walter expressed his disappointment, saying, “It’s obviously disappointing to lose someone of Glenn’s calibre. Much like Finn, we really feel for Glenn… he was eager to get out on the field for the Blackcaps.”

Walter added that Phillips is expected to make a strong comeback once recovered.

NZC has not yet named a replacement for Phillips in the Test squad.
