Cricket returns to Olympics at LA 2028 with T20 format for men and women.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced the match schedule for the men’s and women’s T20 cricket tournaments at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, marking the sport’s return to the Games after a 128-year absence.

The cricket competition will run from July 12 to July 29, 2028, with matches held at Pomona Fairplex, located about 50 kilometers from downtown Los Angeles.

Both the men’s and women’s tournaments will feature six teams each, with squads of 15 players, adhering to the Olympic cap of 90 athletes per gender. The women’s gold medal match is set for July 20, while the men’s final will close the tournament on July 29.

The event will feature a revised format where group-stage teams play cross-pool matches—for example, the top team in Group A will play the second and third teams in Group B, and vice versa. The top two teams overall will compete for gold, while the third and fourth will fight for bronze.

Most matchdays will feature double-headers, with games scheduled for 9:00 AM and 6:30 PM (local time).

Cricket’s return to the Olympics is seen as a major milestone for the sport’s global growth, especially as interest increases in non-traditional markets.

While qualification criteria are still being finalized, the ICC T20I rankings are expected to be used for team selection. The final decision will be made at the ICC Annual Conference in Singapore starting July 17. A key question remains whether host nation USA will receive automatic qualification, which could reduce the number of available spots for other countries to five.

The LA28 Organizing Committee has stated that a more detailed match schedule and medal event order will be released later this year.
