A Pakistan Army officer, Major Syed Rabnawaz Tariq, was martyred during an intelligence-based operation against Indian-backed terrorists in Balochistan’s Awaran district, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Wednesday.
The ISPR reported that security forces launched the operation following credible intelligence about the presence of terrorists linked to the Indian proxy group, Fitna al-Hindustan. During the mission, Pakistani troops successfully neutralised three terrorists. However, in the intense exchange of fire, 34-year-old Major Rabnawaz, a resident of Muzaffarabad, embraced martyrdom while courageously leading his troops from the front.
The military’s media wing affirmed that the Pakistan Armed Forces remain resolute in their mission to eliminate Indian-sponsored terrorism from the country. “The sacrifices of our brave soldiers only strengthen our commitment,” the statement emphasized.
A follow-up sanitisation operation is underway in the area to clear any remaining terrorist threats.
Pakistan has faced a surge in cross-border terrorism, particularly since the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan in 2021. The provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have borne the brunt of these attacks. May 2025 witnessed a spike in militant activity, despite simmering military tensions with India not escalating into full-blown conflict.
