India captain Shubman Gill said the heated exchanges between players made the third Test at Lord’s more thrilling and intense, as England clinched a narrow 22-run victory to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
The match saw rising tensions between the sides, with Gill sarcastically applauding England batters for slowing play, while fast bowler Mohammed Siraj drew attention for roaring in Ben Duckett’s face after dismissing him. Siraj was later fined 15% of his match fee for the outburst.
“You’re giving everything — mentally, physically,” Gill said during a post-match press conference. “There are moments where things get heated on both sides. But that’s what makes it exciting and more challenging.”
Despite the confrontations, Gill emphasized mutual respect between the teams. “At the end of the day, there’s a lot of admiration. Both teams are giving it their all to win,” he added.
Looking ahead, Gill stressed the importance of composure. “The longer the match goes, the more it reflects how evenly matched both sides are. It’s about which team keeps calm under pressure.”
The fourth Test is set to begin in Manchester on July 23.
