Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned India’s hostile actions, accusing it of jeopardizing regional peace by launching an unprovoked attack on Pakistan. He praised the Pakistan Army for delivering a robust and appropriate response under the leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Speaking at the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit in Azerbaijan, PM Shehbaz also denounced Israel’s unjustified aggression against neighboring Iran. He expressed heartfelt condolences for the lives lost in the Israeli strikes and criticized Israel’s inhumane blockade of Gaza, where Palestinians are being deprived of basic necessities.
The Prime Minister raised serious concerns about India’s attempts to weaponize water by suspending the Indus Waters Treaty. “Water is the lifeline for 240 million Pakistanis,” he emphasized, calling the move unacceptable.
Referring to a recent incident in Pahalgam, PM Shehbaz accused India of using it as an excuse to carry out aggression against Pakistan, further threatening regional stability. He reiterated that Pakistan’s armed forces, under Field Marshal Munir, responded effectively and decisively.
PM Shehbaz also congratulated Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for hosting the ECO Summit successfully and thanked him for the warm hospitality in Khankendi. He pointed out that ECO member states are among the most vulnerable to climate change and shared Pakistan’s commitment to a comprehensive climate policy.
Highlighting the scale of the 2022 floods that impacted over 33 million Pakistanis, he detailed the ongoing environmental challenges the country faces—including melting glaciers, rising temperatures, and extreme flooding. He stressed the importance of collective action in addressing climate change and emphasized the role of technology in achieving sustainable regional development.
“The consequences of climate change are escalating, and only a united global effort can tackle this crisis,” he concluded.
