Hamas to release 10 hostages as part of proposed ceasefire deal: NYT.

Hamas has reportedly agreed to release 10 Israeli hostages as part of a potential ceasefire agreement, according to The New York Times, which cited both an Israeli defense official and a Palestinian source close to the group. The proposed arrangement also includes the return of the remains of 18 deceased captives to Israel.

The report indicates that the hostages would be freed in five separate phases during a 60-day truce. The process would be carried out discreetly, without public ceremonies.

Israel Signals Readiness for Ceasefire

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar confirmed on Wednesday that Israel is serious about reaching a ceasefire agreement with Hamas to end the ongoing war in Gaza and secure the return of hostages.

Speaking in Tallinn after meeting with Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, Saar stated, “We are serious in our will to reach a hostage deal and a ceasefire. We said yes to [US] special envoy Steve Witkoff’s proposals.”

He noted that while there are “positive signs,” more details could not be shared at the moment. Saar emphasized that Hamas bears full responsibility for initiating and continuing the conflict that began on October 7, 2023. He called on the international community to support U.S.-led mediation efforts and apply pressure on Hamas.

Hamas Reviews Mediator Proposals

In a parallel statement on Wednesday, Hamas acknowledged that it is reviewing new ceasefire proposals presented by mediators Egypt and Qatar. The group reaffirmed its objective of reaching an agreement that would bring an end to the war and lead to a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
