Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a follow-up meeting of the steering committee on sugar import, aiming to finalise key measures to ensure price stability and an adequate domestic supply of sugar.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for National Food Security, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, Chief Secretaries of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Balochistan, along with senior officials from federal and provincial governments.
Expanding on prior discussions, the committee officially approved the decision to import 500,000 metric tons of sugar through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan as well as private sector channels.
Senator Dar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining a steady supply of essential commodities at reasonable prices for consumers nationwide.
