Heavy overnight rain lashes twin cities, WASA declares rain emergency.

Rawalpindi and Islamabad were drenched by heavy overnight rainfall, while other cities including Sialkot, Haripur, Wazirabad, and Kalabagh also received significant downpours.

In response to the severe weather, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi has declared a rain emergency. A WASA spokesperson said field teams with heavy machinery have been deployed across key locations to swiftly manage any emergencies.

WASA Managing Director stated that Nullah Lai is being closely monitored. Currently, water levels remain within safe limits—5 feet at Katrian and 4 feet at Gawalmandi Bridge. However, full preparedness measures are in place in case the situation worsens.

Residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel, stay cautious in low-lying areas, and contact the WASA helpline in case of emergencies.

According to the Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall recorded so far is 50mm at the PMD site and 38mm in Shamsabad.
