Cristiano Ronaldo has extended his stay with Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr by signing a two-year contract extension, the club announced on Thursday. The new deal will keep the Portuguese forward at the club beyond his 42nd birthday.
Ronaldo originally joined Al Nassr in late 2022 after parting ways with Manchester United. Since then, he has been a prolific scorer, netting 93 goals in 105 appearances across all competitions.
“A new chapter begins. Same passion, same dream. Let’s make history together,” Ronaldo wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter), celebrating the contract renewal.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner initially signed a two-and-a-half-year deal after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, making him the world’s highest-paid athlete. According to Forbes, he has held that title for the past three years, with current estimated earnings of around $275 million at the age of 40.
Despite his age, Ronaldo has shown little sign of slowing down. This month, he helped lead Portugal to their second UEFA Nations League title with a win over Spain in the final.
The legendary striker is also chasing an extraordinary milestone—1,000 career goals. So far, he has scored 794 goals in club football and 138 for Portugal, bringing his total to 932.
Ronaldo’s move to Saudi Arabia in 2022 triggered a wave of transfers from European leagues to the Saudi Pro League, with big names like Karim Benzema—his former Real Madrid teammate—following suit.
While he has helped Al Nassr lift the Arab Club Champions Cup, Ronaldo is yet to secure a Saudi Pro League title. The club has finished as runners-up in the 2022–23 and 2023–24 seasons and placed third in the most recent campaign.
With his contract now extended through 2027, Ronaldo has more time to chase silverware with Al Nassr—and possibly reach that elusive 1,000-goal mark.
