Maryam Nawaz Orders Crackdown on Hate Speech, Drone Ban & Emergency Heatstroke Plan for Muharram

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has emphasized the critical need for enhanced security and public safety during the sacred month of Muharram, warning that negative elements are fearful of the success of Operation Banyan Marsus.Chairing a high-level security meeting, she issued clear directives to the administration to treat Muharram as a highly sensitive period and ensure visible enforcement of state authority across Punjab.

Hateful Content on Social Media to Be Met with Immediate Arrests

In a strong statement, CM Maryam Nawaz announced that any individual found spreading hate or sectarian content on social media during Muharram will be arrested immediately. She underscored that social media platforms are being monitored around the clock to curb any activities that could incite unrest or spread misinformation.

This is not the time for tolerance toward divisive speech,she asserted. We will deal with hate mongers with an iron hand. The writ of the government must be visible in every corner of the province.

Complete Ban on Drone Usage in Punjab During Muharram

As part of the extensive security measures, a complete ban on drone usage has been imposed throughout Punjab for the entire duration of Muharram. CM Maryam warned that violations of the drone ban will invite immediate legal action.

Drones have often been seen as potential threats during large public gatherings, both from a security and privacy perspective. By banning drones, the administration seeks to eliminate any risks of surveillance, provocation, or security breach during sensitive religious events.

Emergency Plan Demanded from All District Administrations

Maryam Nawaz called upon all district administrations to present an emergency action plan immediately. This includes a special focus on contingency responses, medical readiness, and crowd control strategies to handle Ashura processions safely and efficiently.

She made it clear that law enforcement agencies, healthcare departments, and municipal bodies must remain on high alert, fully equipped to respond to any incidents without delay.

Ban on Wall Chalking and Sectarian Slogans

Wall chalking with political or sectarian slogans has been identified as another tool of incitement. The Punjab Chief Minister ordered an immediate ban on all wall chalking related to sectarian rhetoric or hate-based propaganda. She instructed relevant authorities to remove existing chalking promptly and ensure strict surveillance to deter future attempts.

Field Hospitals & Mobile Clinics Along Ashura Routes

Anticipating intense summer heat and the risk of heatstroke among mourners, especially during long processions, CM Maryam Nawaz instructed the Health Department to set up field hospitals and mobile clinics at key Ashura routes.

These emergency health setups will provide first aid, cold water, rehydration salts, and ambulance support for mourners. We must ensure the health and safety of every citizen, especially during such emotionally and physically demanding observances,Maryam said.

Zero-Tolerance for Code of Conduct Violations

The Chief Minister reiterated that a zero-tolerance policy will be enforced during Muharram for any violations of the officially established code of conduct. This includes bans on unauthorized processions, inflammatory speeches, sectarian displays, and unlawful public gatherings.

She directed law enforcement agencies to be fully mobilized with backup support from special police units and community volunteers to manage crowd flow and maintain peace.

Unity and Peace: The Government’s Top Priority

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz concluded the session with a call for unity, stating that peaceful observance of Muharram is the collective responsibility of both the state and the citizens.

The month of Muharram carries deep religious significance. While we must respect and uphold traditions, it is equally our duty to prevent any forces from exploiting it for their agendas,she said. Operation Banyan Marsus is a step toward stability, and we will not allow anyone to derail this progress.

The meeting, which included top security officials, district commissioners, religious scholars, and health administrators, ended with unanimous support for the directives issued. The Punjab government now moves into high gear to ensure a peaceful, respectful, and safe Muharram across the province.
