Hamza Ali Abbasi criticizes may 9 violence and PTI leadership.

Actor and former PTI supporter Hamza Ali Abbasi has sparked renewed political discussion with his recent remarks condemning the violence of May 9, 2023, and voicing concerns over certain decisions made during Imran Khan’s tenure as Prime Minister.

Speaking candidly on a televised talk show, Hamza addressed the current political climate and the evolving direction of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He did not hold back in denouncing the violent protests that erupted after Imran Khan’s arrest, which saw attacks on military installations and public property.

“There is absolutely no justification for targeting state institutions or damaging public property. What happened on May 9 was wrong and must be condemned by everyone,” Hamza stated firmly.

Reflecting on his past support for Imran Khan, Hamza admitted his views have changed: “I once believed in Imran Khan’s vision for change, but there comes a time when loyalty to truth must take precedence over loyalty to individuals.”

His comments triggered a strong backlash from PTI supporters on social media, who accused him of betrayal and inconsistency, particularly at a time when the party faces intense political challenges.

Prominent PTI figures and online influencers expressed disappointment, interpreting his remarks as a clear departure from the movement he once supported.

Despite the criticism, Hamza stood by his statements, reiterating the importance of peaceful political engagement, democratic values, and institutional accountability. He stressed that meaningful reform begins with honest introspection, even within one’s own political affiliations.

His remarks have added fuel to ongoing political discourse, highlighting internal rifts among former PTI loyalists and raising broader questions about political integrity, accountability, and the future of activism in Pakistan.
