Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry launched a scathing attack on the current government, judiciary, and provincial administrations, questioning the Prime Minister’s credibility and leadership. “How can a leader offer relief when he doesn’t even have clothes on his back?” Fawad remarked during a media interaction outside the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC).
He criticised the state of governance, calling it unchecked and lacking accountability. Fawad also accused former prime minister Nawaz Sharif of misusing the official PM aircraft like a “private taxi” for personal travel to London.
Condemning recent increases in the salaries of the National Assembly Speaker and Senate Chairman, he questioned the allocation of an Air Force jet for a provincial chief minister’s medical trip to Geneva.
Fawad expressed serious concerns about the judicial handling of politically motivated cases, particularly highlighting trials in Faisalabad. Suggesting these cases be transferred to military courts, he lamented the ongoing delays in his own petition pending in the High Court, citing “unprecedented methods of prosecution.”
He also criticised the limited access granted to Imran Khan’s legal team and family in Adiala Jail, arguing that even during martial law eras, trials weren’t this opaque. “Such biased proceedings were the hallmark of monarchies in the 15th and 16th centuries,” he stated.
Claiming that the judicial system is on the verge of collapse, Fawad warned that the nation is operating in complete darkness and questioned how long this situation could continue. He urged for political dialogue and the formation of an opposition alliance but alleged that the ruling party shows no willingness for engagement.
Turning to alleged financial mismanagement in Punjab, Fawad slammed the provincial government for spending Rs. 30 billion on sanitation during just three days of Eid—more than double the province’s annual cleanliness budget of Rs. 13 billion. “Funds are being spent recklessly, with zero accountability,” he concluded.
