Pakistan highlights trade vision and export strengths at expo 2025 Osaka.

Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan addressed international media at Expo 2025 Osaka, outlining Pakistan’s trade strategy, export strengths, and resource-based economic vision during a well-attended press conference.

Speaking to over 43 local and global media outlets, Khan emphasized the country’s focus on value addition, sustainable practices, and international cooperation as pillars of its evolving trade framework. He noted that Pakistan is working to enhance its global footprint by leveraging natural resources, innovation, and sectoral diversity.

“Universe in a Grain of Salt”: The Pakistan Pavilion

At the heart of Pakistan’s participation at the Expo is the Pakistan Pavilion, themed “Universe in a Grain of Salt.” Highlighting the unique use of pink Himalayan salt—a globally recognized Pakistani export—Khan described the pavilion as both a symbol of Pakistan’s natural wealth and a narrative of its sustainable trade aspirations.

“The use of pink salt flooring and interactive exhibits demonstrates how our resources can be transformed into powerful tools for engagement,” the minister stated. “This pavilion is not only a cultural representation but a platform to explore trade priorities.”

He also acknowledged the support of the Japan Association, which played a key role in the pavilion’s development, noting that the positive visitor response has been overwhelming.

Key Sectors in Focus

During the briefing, Khan elaborated on Pakistan’s traditional export strengths, including:

  • Textiles
  • Leather products
  • Surgical instruments
  • Sports goods

He further drew attention to emerging sectors such as information and communication technology (ICT) and agriculture, especially rice exports. The minister stressed that Pakistan’s expanding ICT workforce and agribusiness capacity represent strong areas for foreign investment and trade partnerships.

Expo Theme and Global Engagement

The pavilion’s design aligns closely with the Expo’s main theme: “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” and the sub-theme “Saving Lives.” Khan emphasized that pink salt serves not only as an export product but also as a metaphor for Pakistan’s sustainable trade goals.

He extended an invitation to international visitors to attend Pakistan’s National Day celebration on August 14, 2025, and participate in upcoming trade events at the Expo, including product displays and culinary experiences.

Diplomatic Engagements and Future Trade Links

The day also featured a series of high-level diplomatic meetings and pavilion visits. Minister Khan held talks with officials from the Japan Association and toured the pavilions of Japan, China, the US, Saudi Arabia, UAE, France, Qatar, Turkey, the UK, Palestine, Azerbaijan, and Tajikistan. These interactions focused on deepening trade ties, encouraging joint ventures, and fostering regional economic collaboration.

Khan’s remarks and activities at Expo 2025 underline Pakistan’s intent to rebrand itself as a dynamic, resource-rich, and forward-looking trade partner on the global stage.
