Sheikh Rashid condemns India suspension of indus waters treaty as ‘water terrorism’.

Awami Muslim League Chief and former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has strongly denounced India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it an act of “water terrorism” and a serious provocation.

In a statement shared on social media, Sheikh Rashid rejected India’s allegations against Pakistan regarding the recent Pahalgam incident as “baseless,” and warned that obstructing Pakistan’s water rights amounts to an open declaration of war. He stressed that India has no legal or moral authority to unilaterally withdraw from a bilateral agreement.

He also condemned ongoing human rights violations in Indian-administered Kashmir, saying such atrocities will not be ignored. “The people of Pakistan know how to protect every inch of their homeland,” he declared, warning that India will face a “fitting response” in due time.

India’s abrupt announcement to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty has drawn strong criticism, with experts and political leaders labeling it an act of “hydro-political aggression.” The decades-old treaty, brokered by the World Bank in 1960, governs water sharing between the two neighboring countries and is considered a critical pillar in maintaining regional peace.
