Bangladeshi court orders seizure of Shakib Al Hasan assets amid legal troubles.

A Bangladeshi court has ordered the seizure of cricket star Shakib Al Hasan’s assets, intensifying his legal challenges linked to his association with the country’s former leader, Sheikh Hasina.

Shakib, a former lawmaker from Hasina’s party, faced public backlash after the ex-leader was ousted in a student-led uprising last year. Following her escape to India via helicopter, Shakib became one of the individuals under investigation for a violent crackdown on protesters. While he has not been formally charged in connection with the protests, he is currently facing fraud allegations over bounced cheques worth over $300,000.

On Monday, a Dhaka magistrate issued the seizure order after previously issuing an arrest warrant against Shakib in January.

At the time of Hasina’s government collapse, Shakib was participating in a domestic T20 league in Canada and has yet to return to Bangladesh.

Recognized as one of Bangladesh’s most prominent cricketers, the left-arm all-rounder has played 71 Tests, 247 ODIs, and 129 T20Is, claiming a total of 712 wickets across formats.
