Punjab launches digital empowerment initiative to train 27,000 rural women in IT skills.

The Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, has introduced a transformative digital empowerment initiative aimed at equipping 27,000 rural women with essential IT and digital skills.

Participants will receive scholarships during the training period and will be provided with desktop computers and free Wi-Fi devices upon successful completion of the program. The Punjab Skills Development Department (PSDF) will manage the six-month online training, offering women the flexibility to apply from home through the official website.

The comprehensive curriculum covers a range of topics, including IT, web development, coding, digital marketing, e-commerce, social media management, graphic design, freelancing, data entry, office automation, and cybersecurity. Graduates will receive certifications and benefit from job placement support.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed her confidence that the initiative will empower women to explore freelancing opportunities, launch tech startups, or establish online businesses from home — effectively removing traditional employment barriers.

She further highlighted the broader impact of the program, noting that it will foster economic empowerment, enable women to compete in the global IT market, and contribute to Punjab’s digital transformation.

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to promoting education, achieving gender equality, and reducing economic disparities by positioning rural women as pivotal contributors to the province’s growing digital economy.
