Pakistan Stay Alive in T20I Series with Record-Breaking Win Over New Zealand

Pakistan secured a crucial victory against New Zealand in the third T20I of the five-match series, winning by nine wickets to keep their hopes alive. The dominant performance in Auckland on Friday saw opener Hasan Nawaz shine with a record-breaking maiden century.

After failing to score in his first two international innings, Nawaz bounced back in spectacular fashion, smashing an unbeaten 105 off just 44 balls. His century was the fastest ever by a Pakistani batter in T20 internationals, breaking Babar Azam’s record set against South Africa in 2021. His brilliant knock helped Pakistan chase down New Zealand’s 204-run target in just 16 overs.

Nawaz’s innings included 10 fours and seven sixes, with a mix of elegant strokes and audacious ramp shots. He reached his hundred with a boundary off Kyle Jamieson and then sealed Pakistan’s victory with another four.

Fellow opener Mohammad Haris contributed a quickfire 41 off 20 balls, while captain Salman Agha remained unbeaten on 51 off 31, ensuring Pakistan’s comfortable chase.

Earlier, New Zealand looked in control when they posted 204 runs, largely due to Mark Chapman’s explosive 94 off 44 balls. Chapman smashed 11 fours and four sixes, single-handedly keeping the hosts competitive. However, the rest of the New Zealand batting lineup struggled to build momentum, with only captain Michael Bracewell offering support with 31 runs.

Pakistan’s bowlers managed to restrict the Kiwis in the final overs. Haris Rauf led the attack with figures of 3-29, including the crucial wicket of Bracewell. The disciplined bowling effort ensured New Zealand fell short of a more challenging total despite Chapman’s heroics.

Pakistan’s emphatic win marked a dramatic turnaround after heavy defeats in Christchurch and Dunedin. The team will now look to level the series when they face New Zealand in the fourth T20I at Mount Maunganui on Sunday.
