Sindh government declares March 22 holiday for youm-e-Ali.

The Sindh government has announced a public holiday for all educational institutions across the province on March 22 in observance of Youm-e-Ali.

According to the School Education Department, both public and private schools will remain closed on this day to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (RA), the fourth caliph of Islam.

Youm-e-Ali is observed on the 21st of Ramazan with deep reverence across the country. Hazrat Ali (RA) sustained fatal injuries on the 19th of Ramazan, 40 AH (661 CE), when attacked by a Kharijite dissident, Ibn Muljim, while going for Fajr prayer in Kufa, Iraq. He attained martyrdom on the 21st of Ramazan.
