The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the nominees for the Men’s Player of the Month award for February 2025, featuring Australia’s Steve Smith, India’s Shubman Gill, and New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips.
Steve Smith (Australia)
Smith showcased his brilliance in the Test series against Sri Lanka, scoring 141 and 131 in two matches at a staggering strike rate of 136.00. His performances earned him the Player of the Series title. In ODIs, he had modest returns of 12 and 29 before heading into the ICC Champions Trophy, where he managed scores of 5 against England and an unbeaten 19 against Afghanistan.
Shubman Gill (India)
Gill enjoyed a sensational run in ODIs, amassing 406 runs at an average of 101.50 and a strike rate of 94.19. His standout performances against England—87 in Nagpur, 60 in Cuttack, and a match-winning 112 in Ahmedabad—secured him the Player of the Series award in India’s 3-0 triumph. He carried this form into the ICC Champions Trophy, smashing an unbeaten 101 against Bangladesh and a crucial 46 against Pakistan.
Glenn Phillips (New Zealand)
Phillips proved invaluable for the Black Caps, excelling both with the bat and in the field. He scored 236 runs at a strike rate of 124.21 in ODIs, playing key knocks during New Zealand’s tri-series victory in Pakistan. His highlights included 106 against Pakistan in Lahore and an unbeaten 61 against the same opposition in Karachi during the Champions Trophy opener.
With all three players delivering impactful performances in February, the competition for the prestigious ICC award remains fierce.
