Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz takes action against mismanagement at mayo hospital.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has taken strict action against administrative failures at Mayo Hospital, Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique revealed.

Despite having ample stock of syringes and medical disposables, patients were being forced to purchase medicines, and even though the pathology lab had the necessary test facilities, patients were directed to seek tests from external sources, the minister stated.

Mayo Hospital operates with a budget of Rs1.5 billion, while the Department of Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education had already provided Rs220 million worth of additional medicines. On Saturday, the Health Department further allocated Rs340 million for medicine procurement. Additionally, the hospital had Rs150 million in its UHI account and Rs190 million in its PLA account, yet medicines were not purchased.

Due to their inefficiency, former CEO Prof. Ahsan Noman and MS Prof. Faisal Masood were removed from their positions. Minister Rafique emphasized that while the government provides billions of rupees to public hospitals for improved patient care and respects healthcare professionals, there will be no compromise on patient treatment.
