Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez have firmly opposed US President Donald Trump’s proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza amid the ongoing conflict.
Arab League to Discuss Controversial Proposal
The Arab League will convene an extraordinary meeting in Cairo on March 4 to address Trump’s plan, which reportedly aims to:
- Permanently relocate Gaza’s Palestinian population to Egypt and Jordan.
- Redevelop Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East”.
Sisi and Sanchez Reject Displacement
Speaking in Madrid, Sisi urged the international community to:
“Support and adopt a plan to rebuild Gaza without displacing the Palestinian people—I repeat, without displacing the Palestinian people—from their land and homeland, which they do not agree to relinquish.”
Sanchez, a vocal supporter of Palestinian rights in the EU, reinforced:
- Gaza belongs to the Palestinians and must be part of a future Palestinian state.
- Displacing Palestinians would be immoral, illegal, and destabilizing.
Egypt-Spain Strengthen Ties Amid Crisis
During the meeting, Egypt and Spain also:
- Signed a strategic partnership declaration.
- Agreed on cooperation in migration and defense.
Global Backlash Against Trump’s Plan
- Arab governments and world leaders have condemned the proposal.
- The United Nations warned against potential “ethnic cleansing” in Gaza.
As tensions rise, the March 4 Arab League meeting is expected to shape the international response to Trump’s controversial Gaza strategy.
