Imran Khan’s Second Open Letter to Army Chief: Calls for Justice and Democracy

Second Open Letter

Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, Imran Khan, has written a second open letter to Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, raising concerns over political instability, human rights violations, and threats to democracy in Pakistan.

In his letter, Imran Khan accused the government of rigging the elections, manipulating constitutional amendments, and suppressing opposition voices through oppressive laws. He also detailed his mistreatment in prison, shedding light on the harsh conditions he is facing.

Imran Khan’s 6-Point Agenda: A Call for Public Opinion

Imran Khan emphasized that his letter was written with good intentions for the betterment of the country and the nation. He claimed that if the public were consulted on the six key points he raised, 90% of Pakistanis would support them.

While he did not list all six points explicitly, the issues he addressed include:
Pre-poll rigging and election manipulation
Unconstitutional amendments to control the judiciary
Political suppression through draconian laws
Human rights violations, including unjust imprisonment
Media and internet censorship
Economic downfall due to political instability

Allegations of Election Rigging and Judiciary Takeover

In his letter, Imran Khan accused the ruling authorities of rigging the general elections even before polling day. He claimed that the 26th Constitutional Amendment was passed solely to weaken the judiciary, allowing political interference in legal matters.

Khan further alleged that the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) is being misused to silence dissenting voices, block criticism, and control social media and press freedom.

Harsh Conditions in Jail: Imran Khan’s Grievances

The PTI founder detailed severe mistreatment in prison, stating that he has been subjected to psychological and physical distress. He revealed that:
He was kept in a death cell for 20 days, without access to sunlight.
Electricity in his cell was cut off for five days, leaving him in complete darkness.
His exercise equipment and television were taken away to further isolate him.
He was denied access to books and newspapers, preventing him from staying informed.

Family Separation and Violation of Court Orders

Khan also expressed his deep distress over being separated from his family. He disclosed that:
His sons were only allowed to speak with him three times in the last six months.
Court orders allowing him to talk to his children have been ignored.
Only a handful of people have been permitted to meet him.
His wife, Bushra Bibi, has also been placed in solitary confinement, despite court directives allowing her visits.

Thousands of PTI Supporters Facing Legal Battles

Imran Khan pointed out that over 2,000 PTI leaders, workers, and supporters are still facing politically motivated cases, with bail applications deliberately delayed. He warned that the suppression of opposition voices is pushing Pakistan towards further political instability.

Additionally, he criticized the government’s internet restrictions and social media bans, arguing that these black laws are damaging Pakistan’s global reputation. He warned that Pakistan’s GSP Plus status—which allows favorable trade terms with the European Union—is now at risk due to human rights violations and lack of media freedom.

A Plea for Justice and Democracy

Imran Khan ended his letter by urging the army chief to take corrective action. He emphasized that Pakistan’s political crisis cannot be resolved through oppression but by respecting democratic principles, upholding judicial independence, and ensuring free and fair elections.
