World Cancer day 2025: “united by unique” emphasizes personalised care.

World Cancer Day 2025, observed on February 4, will focus on the theme “United by Unique,” highlighting the importance of personalised, patient-centred cancer care. This theme underscores the need for tailored treatment approaches that address the unique medical and emotional needs of each individual.

Cancer: A Global Health Challenge

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) remain a major public health concern worldwide, with cancer being the leading cause of death globally, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). In 2022 alone, cancer claimed approximately 10 million lives.

The most common types of cancer differ by gender:

  • Men: Lung, prostate, colorectal, stomach, and liver cancer
  • Women: Breast, colorectal, lung, cervical, and thyroid cancer

A Three-Year Campaign for Inclusive Cancer Care

The 2025-2027 World Cancer Day campaign will focus on the personal experiences of patients, survivors, and caregivers, aiming to foster empathy, inclusivity, and a deeper understanding of individual cancer journeys.

A Legacy of Global Collaboration

World Cancer Day was first introduced on February 4, 1999, at the World Summit Against Cancer in Paris. A year later, the Charter of Paris Against Cancer was signed, formally establishing the observance and emphasizing the importance of global cooperation in cancer care, research, and treatment advancements.

Led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), World Cancer Day continues to drive awareness and action, urging governments, organizations, and individuals worldwide to work towards better cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment.
