Khyber Pakhtunkhwa information adviser slams PECA amendments as attack on press freedom.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Adviser Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif on Friday strongly criticized the federal government for amending the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), accusing it of attempting to shield the government’s wrongdoings from the media.

In a statement, Saif described the amendments as an attack on press freedom, calling the legislation a “digital nation destruction bill.” He pointed out that, following the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which he claimed was an attack on the judiciary, the government was now targeting press freedom to extend its time in power.

Saif expressed his commitment to supporting journalists, emphasizing that he had never witnessed such an oppressive move, even in dictatorships. He vowed to stand firm with the media in defending their rights.
