Tulip Siddiq resigns over financial ties to Sheikh Hasina.

British minister Tulip Siddiq resigned on Tuesday following questions about her financial links to her aunt, Sheikh Hasina, the former prime minister of Bangladesh.

Siddiq, who oversaw financial services and anti-corruption, denied any wrongdoing but said her position had become a “distraction” for the government.

Bangladeshi authorities are investigating whether Siddiq and Hasina benefited from funds linked to a $12.65 billion nuclear project. Siddiq also faced scrutiny over properties in London connected to Hasina and her allies.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer accepted Siddiq’s resignation and replaced her with Emma Reynolds, a former pensions minister.

This is the second resignation in two months for Starmer’s government, adding pressure as his approval ratings drop. Sheikh Hasina denies the corruption allegations and remains under investigation.
