Legal trouble for Diljit Dosanjh following controversial new year eve concert in Ludhiana.

Popular Indian singer Diljit Dosanjh finds himself embroiled in legal trouble following his New Year’s Eve concert in Ludhiana. Allegations have been made against him for performing songs that purportedly promote alcohol consumption.

As part of his ongoing Dil-Luminati tour, Dosanjh performed tracks such as “Patiala Peg,” “5 Taara Theke,” and “Case (Jeeb Vicho Feem Labbiya),” which have attracted a legal complaint. The complaint, filed by Chandigarh-based assistant professor Punditrao Dharenavar, prompted the Deputy Director of the Women and Child Department to issue an official notice to the District Commissioner of Ludhiana. The notice called for Dosanjh to be prohibited from performing these songs at future live concerts.

Dharenavar raised concerns about the influence these songs might have on young audiences, particularly underage children who attended the concert. He cited a 2019 ruling by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which prohibits performances of songs promoting alcohol, drugs, or violence at public events due to their adverse impact on impressionable youth.

“These performances send the wrong message, especially when children are in the audience,” Dharenavar stated. He also criticized Dosanjh for wearing a pagadi (turban) while performing these controversial songs, arguing that the sacred symbol should not be associated with promoting harmful values.
