Pakistan rejects US sanctions on missile programme, asserts sovereign security decisions.

The Foreign Office has firmly dismissed the impact of recent US sanctions on Pakistan’s missile programme, emphasizing that they will not influence the nation’s defense policies or security decisions.

Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated unequivocally that “decisions regarding Pakistan’s security will be made by the Pakistani nation, free from any external pressure.” She described the sanctions as “unnecessary and unjust,” underscoring that such measures would not undermine Pakistan’s commitment to its defense priorities.

Referring to Pakistan’s resilience, Ms. Baloch noted that the country has previously faced sanctions without compromising its security, affirming that national defense will always remain a top priority.

She further clarified that Pakistan’s missile programme poses no threat to the United States. Highlighting regional dynamics, Ms. Baloch blamed India for initiating the arms race involving missile systems and nuclear technology. She urged world powers to take stricter measures against India to curb this competition.

Addressing European Union concerns regarding civilian trials in military courts, Ms. Baloch assured that Pakistan’s constitution and judiciary are well-equipped to handle internal matters. She emphasized, “The Pakistani nation is capable of resolving its own issues without external intervention.”

The US recently imposed sanctions on four Pakistani firms alleged to be involved in the production of long-range ballistic missiles. However, Pakistan remains steadfast in its position, prioritizing its security and sovereignty above all.
