Australia domestic one-day cup renamed the Dean Jones trophy.

Australia’s domestic One-Day Cup has been renamed the Dean Jones Trophy in honor of the legendary cricketer who helped revolutionize the 50-over game. Dean Jones, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 59 due to a heart attack in India, remains one of Australia’s greatest ODI players.

Over the course of his career, Jones scored 6,068 runs in 164 ODIs, earning acclaim for his aggressive and innovative approach to the one-day format. His contributions to the game included redefining the way the 50-over format was played during his era.

Cricket Australia chief Nick Hockley praised Jones’ impact, stating:
“He was a World Cup winner, an innovator, and possessed one of the best records in 50-over cricket for the era that he played. We are delighted to acknowledge his legacy in perpetuity by naming our premier one-day domestic competition in his honour.”

In addition, Cricket Australia announced that the Player of the Tournament Final in March will be awarded the Michael Bevan Medal, named after another iconic one-day batsman renowned for his finishing skills.

This tribute celebrates the enduring legacy of two of Australia’s greatest limited-overs cricketers.
