In a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday, the federal cabinet approved tariff reviews for eight Independent Power Producers (IPPs). The IPPs included in the review are:
- JDW
- Chiniot Power
- Hamza Sugar
- Almoiz Power Plant
- Indus
- Thal Industries
- Chanar Energy Industries
This decision follows the recommendations of a special task force on IPPs and is aimed at saving Rs200 billion for the national treasury.
Previously, the federal cabinet had approved the termination of power purchase agreements with five IPPs, reflecting ongoing efforts to reform the energy sector and reduce financial burdens on the government.
