Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman highlighted the pressing need to tackle global water scarcity during their address at the One Water Summit on Tuesday.
Both leaders emphasized the challenges posed by droughts and inefficient water resource management, calling for collective international efforts to ensure sustainable water practices.
Prime Minister Shehbaz stressed the severe consequences of water shortages, particularly for countries like Pakistan. He remarked, “Water scarcity is one of the biggest challenges facing the world. Efforts to improve water management are essential.”
Referring to Pakistan’s experience with devastating flash floods, he added, “The destruction caused by floods in Pakistan underscores the need for global measures to address water-related challenges effectively.”
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman welcomed the summit attendees to the Kingdom and underscored the severity of the global water crisis. “Water issues are severe and demand urgent global collaboration. The international community must unite to resolve this critical issue,” he said.
The crown prince further noted that the summit focused on strategies to secure water reserves and combat drought, aiming to foster sustainable solutions for the future.
Both leaders agreed that global cooperation is indispensable to addressing water scarcity and its impact on communities worldwide.
