The ongoing threat of polio continues to cast a shadow over Pakistan as another case was confirmed on Wednesday in Peshawar.
According to reports, a two-year-old child in Dera Ismail Khan district has been affected by polio. This brings the total number of cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to 15 this year. Notably, seven of these cases were reported from Dera Ismail Khan, as confirmed by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Other districts in KP, including Tank, Lakki Marwat, and Kohat, reported two cases each, while one case each was recorded in Mohmand District and Nowshera.
Nationwide, Pakistan has documented 56 polio cases in the current year. Balochistan leads with 26 cases, followed by KP with 15. Sindh has reported 13 cases, while Punjab and Islamabad recorded one case each.
The rising number of cases underscores the need for intensified efforts to combat the disease and protect vulnerable communities.
