Unidentified drones have been sighted over four United States Air Force (USAF) bases in England, marking a week of airspace incursions, a USAF spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday.
The incursions, which began on November 20, have involved drones of varying sizes and configurations. Initial sightings were reported at RAF Lakenheath, RAF Mildenhall, and RAF Feltwell in eastern England, with additional activity now confirmed over RAF Fairford in the west.
Despite the persistent activity, the drones have not disrupted operations at the bases, which are leased by the USAF from Britain. “Our units continue to monitor the airspace and are working with host-nation authorities and mission partners to ensure the safety of base personnel, facilities, and assets,” the spokesperson stated. While specific security measures were not disclosed, the USAF emphasized its commitment to protecting its installations.
The British government is assisting in the investigation, with reports suggesting the deployment of 60 military personnel to support the effort. The situation remains under close scrutiny as authorities work to identify the origins and intent of the drones.
